How Long Does Cabinet Refinishing Take?
Most refinishing projects are measured in days, but the exact schedule depends on kitchen size, condition, repairs and whether the scope includes new doors or carpentry.
Why timing varies
Cabinet count matters, but so do repairs, existing coating condition, the amount of in-home masking, color changes, special carpentry and whether new doors are involved. A simple repaint of sound cabinetry is different from a project that includes damaged fronts, new glass doors and added cabinetry.
Typical sequence
- Final scope and color selections
- Remove and label doors and drawer fronts
- Protect and prepare the kitchen
- Prepare and finish boxes, doors and fronts
- Allow appropriate drying and handling time
- Reinstall, adjust and inspect
Fresh coatings continue curing after the project is reassembled, so normal care instructions matter even after the kitchen is back in service.
